Over 200 children received school uniforms from our Afternoon Angels’ Programme. This meant the world to them as they come from struggling families that mostly depend on child support grants for survival. Ikamva Labantu’s Afternoon Angels team distributed the unforms in Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, New Crossroads, and Delft.
“The need is great and this year we’ve been asked to reach more children. Wearing proper uniforms allows the children to feel good and not be teased at school. This work is important as it brings joy not only to the child but to the parents as well,” says Purity Rala our Afternoon Angels community-based worker.
The children also benefit from various donations such as clothing and food in the afterschool clubs throughout the year. They are kept safe after school while they learn and play games which helps with cognitive development and social skills in the 29 sites spread across the Cape Flats.
