United Nations Day is observed on 24 October and celebrated worldwide as the official creation of the United Nations in 1945.
United Nations Day 2021 is a unique a powerful advocacy tool that encourages togetherness for peace and prosperity. In the township communities Ikamva Labantu serves, strategic partnerships have provided tools and resources for community-based workers to unite in the fight for justice, peace and equality for vulnerable men, women and children.
This day provides the opportunity to amplify a common global goal and purpose and strengthen international cooperation for a prosperous future for all nations and people.
In the spirit of the day and times we live in, we call on all South Africans to remember a well-known Zulu phrase, “I am because we are” and to reinforce our unique values and achievements as a nation.
Let’s continue to fight the good fight and take care of one another in our communities, echoing the wise words of Desmond Tutu, “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
