Santa for Seniors – fill lives with hope and love this Festive Season

Sep 29, 2021

The countdown to Christmas has begun! Bring light, love and blessings to 1400 seniors living in Cape Town Townships.

Your contribution makes all the difference.

Up until the advent of COVID-19, the end of the year heralded an exciting time for members of Ikamva Labantu’s Seniors Programme. Members of Ikamva Labantu’s 21 seniors’ clubs would gather for a glorious, colourful and joy-filled celebration of life, love and culture. Culture Day is an annual event that honours the custodians of our past, the anchors of their families and communities.

The senior citizens have shown resilience and endured under the most trying conditions, but sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic prevents gatherings like Cultural Day.  However, in this tradition of fun-filled abundant celebration, we want to offer seniors an alternative. The very best way to safely experience Christmas for our elderly loved ones, whilst they continue to isolate socially, is to bring the celebrations to their home.

Today, we launch the Santa for Seniors campaign and with your help, the senior citizens’ Christmas “stocking” will be filled with treats and personal care items for each of the 1400 club members in Ikamva Labantu’s Seniors Programme.

Below is the list of items on the seniors’ wish list. To fill up one stocking with all the items for one senior will cost R400.

Personal Care Items:

  • Socks
  • Face washcloth
  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Vaseline
  • Camphor cream
  • R100 Artime or Data vouchers for Whatsapp/phone call check-ins

Non-perishable Items:

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Custard
  • Two-minute noodles
  • Jelly

Sweet Treats

  • Biscuits
  • Sweets
  • Rusks

Your Christmas “stocking” will let each senior know that they are remembered, treasured and honoured. You will bring smiles, joy, love and light to their homes at Christmas time.

Will you join us? Together we will make new memories during the upcoming Christmas season.
