In what is currently an economically tough environment for the whole NGO sector, Ikamva Labantu remains extremely grateful for the ongoing support and funding we receive from both our South African and international donors, funders and partners.
In the last quarter both Helen Lieberman (Founder) and Janine van Stolk (Director) travelled abroad to meet partners, but also to raise awareness of the social development needs in South African township communities which remain acute.
In September 2011 Helen was invited to attend the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in New York where she announced the launch of the Enkululekweni Wellness Centre, as well as the launch of an Early Childhood Development Training & Resource Centre. This formed part of Ikamva Labantu’s CGI commitment to health and education development in South Africa. Ikamva Labantu’s Wellness Centre launched in early December. The Early Childhood Development Centre is scheduled to open in February and will be officially launched in the first quarter of 2012.
In addition to an extended trip to Australia where she met with existing partners and parties interested in supporting Ikamva Labantu’s work, Helen was also invited to attend TEDxEuston in London as a guest speaker in November.
In October Janine visited the Netherlands where she met with many long-standing partners of Ikamva Labantu including World Granny, the COR Foundation and Stichting ELF whose commitment to continue partnering in our work is deeply appreciated.
